💡Why Dreams of Community Often Stall before they start...
So many people get the download, so few get to see the reality...
There’s something universally human about envisioning a better life for yourself and others. You’ve likely felt it too—that quiet, almost sacred moment when the noise of modern life fades, and you’re left with a vision:
What if I could leave behind the day to day hustle and dreaming and begin the adventure?
What if I could build something meaningful—a community, a regenerative space, something where my friends and I can share in a life we’ve dreamed of?
Here’s the truth I’ve learned after nearly two decades in land development and intentional community-building: most dreams stall before they even take shape. And it’s not for the reasons you might think. Most people get the download but don’t have the what it takes to see the vision through to reality…
It’s not the lack of funding.
It’s not the permits.
It’s not even the land.
It’s the inner obstacles—the fear, the busyness, and lack of clarity—that quietly derail us. This is not a side hustle, or something to just ramble into.
Take one of my clients we’ll call “Megan”, a brilliant visionary I worked with on a community land project plus retreat center. She had everything lined up: land, funding, and a clear plan. But after a year of trying to shoulder it all on her own, she found herself questioning whether it was all worth it. “I wasn’t just tired,” she said. “I was losing touch with the very dream that brought me here.”
Why does this happen?
Fear of uncertainty: What if it’s too big? What if I fail?
Emotional exhaustion and busy lives: Trying to do too much leads to burnout.
Erosion of clarity: Dreams become muddled without a strong support system.
When we’re depleted and constantly hustling, we don’t just make bad decisions—we disconnect from the vision that sparked our journey in the first place.
But here’s the good news: it doesn’t have to be this way.
Through years of collaboration and reflection, I’ve seen what works to keep founders energized and focused:
Anchor your vision: Write it down, sketch it out, and revisit it often. Nail down the specifics of how you see that vision coming to reality.
Normalize fear: Growth always feels uncertain. What’s one small step you can take today? How will you deal with what comes up along the way?
Build a support system: Share your dream with others—mentors, peers, or a community of like-minded visionaries. Don’t do this alone.
At one of our Land Steward Alliance meeting, we’re dove into this exact topic with Ian-Michael from Holos, who is successfully building a thriving community and healing center while dealing with all of the challenges along the way. His story will inspire you to not just dream big but also to take sustainable steps toward that vision.

P.S. The truth is, no one builds a dream like this alone. Strong support systems aren’t optional—they’re essential. Let’s build yours together!
