đĄWhy Dreams of Community Often Stall before they start...
So many people get the download, so few get to see the reality...
Thereâs something universally human about envisioning a better life for yourself and others. Youâve likely felt it tooâthat quiet, almost sacred moment when the noise of modern life fades, and youâre left with a vision:
What if I could leave behind the day to day hustle and dreaming and begin the adventure?
What if I could build something meaningfulâa community, a regenerative space, something where my friends and I can share in a life weâve dreamed of?
Hereâs the truth Iâve learned after nearly two decades in land development and intentional community-building: most dreams stall before they even take shape. And itâs not for the reasons you might think. Most people get the download but donât have the what it takes to see the vision through to realityâŠ
Itâs not the lack of funding.
Itâs not the permits.
Itâs not even the land.
Itâs the inner obstaclesâthe fear, the busyness, and lack of clarityâthat quietly derail us. This is not a side hustle, or something to just ramble into.
Take one of my clients weâll call âMeganâ, a brilliant visionary I worked with on a community land project plus retreat center. She had everything lined up: land, funding, and a clear plan. But after a year of trying to shoulder it all on her own, she found herself questioning whether it was all worth it. âI wasnât just tired,â she said. âI was losing touch with the very dream that brought me here.â
Why does this happen?
Fear of uncertainty: What if itâs too big? What if I fail?
Emotional exhaustion and busy lives: Trying to do too much leads to burnout.
Erosion of clarity: Dreams become muddled without a strong support system.
When weâre depleted and constantly hustling, we donât just make bad decisionsâwe disconnect from the vision that sparked our journey in the first place.
But hereâs the good news: it doesnât have to be this way.
Through years of collaboration and reflection, Iâve seen what works to keep founders energized and focused:
Anchor your vision: Write it down, sketch it out, and revisit it often. Nail down the specifics of how you see that vision coming to reality.
Normalize fear: Growth always feels uncertain. Whatâs one small step you can take today? How will you deal with what comes up along the way?
Build a support system: Share your dream with othersâmentors, peers, or a community of like-minded visionaries. Donât do this alone.
At one of our Land Steward Alliance meeting, weâre dove into this exact topic with Ian-Michael from Holos, who is successfully building a thriving community and healing center while dealing with all of the challenges along the way. His story will inspire you to not just dream big but also to take sustainable steps toward that vision.

P.S. The truth is, no one builds a dream like this alone. Strong support systems arenât optionalâtheyâre essential. Letâs build yours together!
